Salary £45 to £60K depending on experience + Company Car + Medical Insurance + Pension + Other Benefits

Our client is an independently owned business supplying closures from caps, stoppers, bungs, screw caps, capsules, shives and keystones through to tamper evident sleeves to the UK drinks industry from independent craft brewers and distillers through to large scale breweries and global wine & spirits brands.

There is a current requirement for a Business Development Manager with relevant market knowledge to develop the beers, wines and spirits sector.

My client is looking for someone with working knowledge of; Packaging materials and specifications, Good Manufacturing Practice, Bottling line technologies, Quality Assurance & Control Procedures & Systems, ISO 900/1 & 22000, EU/FDA Food Safety legislation


  • To gather and share market intelligence around Customer & Market trends and create and develop a strategic plan for retention and growth within the assigned territory
  • To identify and prioritise Customers for growth, to ensure that sales and retention targets are met
  • To maintain appropriate face-to-face, phone or email contact with existing Customers in line with current / future spend profiles and complete Visit Schedule and Calendar / Customer Visit Reports
  • To gain an understanding of the Customers' existing product lines and product requirements so that proactive interventions can be made
  • To understand and anticipate customer needs for Company products and whether they require standard / stock items or a bespoke / made to order items
  • To understand pricing structures and order lead-times to provide indicative information to Customers to aid their decision making process
  • To educate and advise Customers to their options and correcting any misconceptions they may have against products that may be a better and more optimal solution for them
  • To gain an understanding of Customers' development plans so that the Company is in a position to maintain continuity of supply to growing volumes and to win new business
  • To keep level of changes in the market and make appropriate introductions to new entrants to the market to gain their business
  • Provide commercial and technical support to Customers on product issues or the introduction of new products
  • To circulate existing customer strategies, plans and product issues to colleagues in the Company
  • To represent the Company at Trade Shows and Industry Events


  • Good knowledge of the FMCG manufacturing industry, preferably within food & drink and packaging
  • Good knowledge of product development process, including lead times
  • Numerically literate
  • Excellent listening skills
  • Excellent communication skills, written and spoken, including presentation
  • Strong Customer focus
  • Attention to detail and excellent analytical and negotiation skills
  • Project Management skills, especially working to deadlines within existing lead times
  • Computer literate with good working knowledge of Office suite products
  • Likely to have previously worked in a similar role
