LITHO PRINTER - CARTONS

Hours of Working: Continental Shift Pattern - 36hrs per week on rotating shifts

Our client is a manufacturer of printed folding cartons supplying a variety of market sectors including food, drinks, pharmaceutical and healthcare markets.

They are currently looking to recruit for a Litho Printer to join their team. You will be setting up, making ready and operating the press for the printing of production on carton material whilst maintaining acceptable quality levels.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identifying and ensuring that all material necessary to complete the job are available (i.e. inks, board, plates, etc.) and check all copies, artwork and information in job bag match the job being printed and works instructions
  • Setting the Press to attain effective running and acceptable standard of quality by adjusting the machine appropriately to set up board transport
  • Ensuring correct fitting and positioning of plates and varnish free areas on substrate with form drawing
  • Set image quality, along with inking and damping ensuring no damage or blemishes
  • Ensuring that 'first off' approval is conducted as per the Quality Procedures and making decision on quality when working without the supervision, helping to minimise downtime
  • Establish optimum running speeds to achieve required efficiency targets as measured via KPI's, and checking colour consistency throughout print run to ensure the maintenance of acceptable quality standards
  • Recording problems detected on the Quality Check Sheet and completing Pallet Identification Labels appropriately, in particular tagging / marking areas of suspect work
  • Troubleshooting machine faults, as appropriate to levels of skill/experience
  • To assist with wash up and ensure that coating blankets are washed and filed away after completion of each job
  • Maintain machines ensuring good housekeeping standards are upheld including filing and storage of blankets, drawings, proofs and passed sheets
  • Transportation, handling and storage of chemicals in accordance with Health & Safety, Hygiene and Environmental legislation, guidance and procedures to prevent any risk to health or inadvertent contamination of product or waterways
  • Disposing of waste in accordance with stipulated waste streams ensuring that any hazardous waste generated is clearly labelled and stored in suitable bund containment
  • Reporting any hygiene or environmental incidents to Department Manager / Quality, quarantining product affected and conducting effective clean-up of the surrounding area
  • Compliance with all relevant procedures relating to Hygiene, Pharmaceutical, Quality, Chain of Custody, Environmental and any other Standards that the company may wish to introduce plus Health & Safety regulations
  • Supervision of print Assistants including ensuring that allocated duties are carried out
  • Performing other duties deemed necessary by Print Production Manager to ensure the efficient operation of the department

Requirements:

  • Working knowledge of KBA or Heidelberg Offset Presses
  • Printing Qualification (e.g. NVQ or equivalent)
  • Previous experience as a printer post qualification
  • Experience of checking quality of print for colour variation
  • Excellent colour differentiation skills
  • Good attention to detail
  • Methodical approach with the ability to work on own initiative
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • Ability to meet set SMART targets
  • Good communication skills
  • Flexibility around working week, including the ability to change shift patterns within agreed minimal notification period, and willingness to work a reasonable amount of overtime when required.
