Job Description

To support the head of packaging development to understand the consumer, customer needs and technical requirements from our packaging to develop a program of work that delivers commercial growth and competitive advantage to the business. 

As Packaging Technologist you will   : 

Support NPD process to bring new products to market with trials and transit support. Manage timelines for packaging printing (FTP) and introduction on site

Manage relationships with design houses to support development of good practice. Improve printing process and quality of reprographics. Brief artworks, create and maintain cutter guides, coordinate packaging redesign projects on current SKUs and manage new film changeovers on site

Support day to day issues with site packaging, supporting QA and operations. Develop understanding of our packaging products to improve operational line efficiency and product efficacy.

Ensure all existing packaging is fit for purpose, compliant with technical and legal requirements, specifications developed and held electronically for access. Deliver packaging cost saving and rationalization projects.

Build supplier relationships to increase our packaging knowledge of industry trends and competitors and our innovation capability.

Recommendations to head of packaging development on most big decisions (capital requirements, large customer changes, major spec changes, lead time changes, changing film widths).  Makes decisions on film types, changing specs, design changes, changing machine settings. 

Qualifications/skills required :  

The ideal candidate will have a technical Degree & /or packaging qualification & 2 + years related packaging work experience gained in food or any area of fmcg manufacturing
