Our client is a family owned and run timber packaging manufacturer established for almost 80 years, over these years the company has grown, developed, and adapted to become one of the UK's leading suppliers of specialist timber products. The company has built its reputation on total commitment to quality of product and reliability of service.
Our client manufactures in excess of £1.8million timber products every year, supplying a wide range of standard and bespoke pallets for the DIY, Packaging, Construction, food, pharmaceutical and manufacturing industries across the UK and Europe.

Their timber products are manufactured to BS ISO 9001:2015; they are also licensed to produce products to meet the international export standard ISPM 15. The company were one of the first in their industry to achieve certification to manufacture products from FSC sourced material. Their recycling facility, including a state of the art Biomass plant on site, runs their kilns enabling them to dry and heat treat pallets in the most environmental and cost effective way.

Our client has always enjoyed excellent customer relationships and in recent years they have seen steady year on year growth. The new premises and production plant has enabled the Company to increase capacity, reduce production costs and seize sales opportunities to enable year on year growth.

They now have a fantastic new opportunity for an enthusiastic candidate to join their growing team as an Account Manager including Business Development.

Primary Responsibilities:

New Business Development

  • Prospect for potential new customers and turn this into increased business.
  • Cold call as appropriate within your market or geographic area to ensure a robust pipeline of opportunities.
  • Meet potential customers by growing, maintaining, and leveraging your network.
  • Identify potential customers, and the decision makers within the customer organisation.
  • Research and build relationships with new customers.
  • Plan approaches and pitches with key individuals within the company and with them to
  • Develop proposals that speaks to the customer's needs, concerns, and objectives.
  • Participate in pricing the solution/service.
  • Handle objections by clarifying, emphasising agreements, and working through differences to a positive conclusion.
  • Identify sales leads and communicate potential new product developments.

Customer Retention

  • Present new products and services and enhance existing relationships.
  • Work with internal colleagues to meet customer needs.
  • Arrange and participate in internal and external customer debriefs.

Business Development Planning

  • Attend industry functions, such as association events and conferences, and provide feedback and information on market and creative trends.
  • Identify opportunities for campaigns, services, and distribution channels that will lead to an increase in sales.
  • Using knowledge of the market and competitors, identify and develop the company's unique selling propositions and differentiators.

Management & Research

  • Submit weekly progress reports and ensure data is accurate.
  • Ensure that data is accurately entered and managed within the company's CRM or other sales management system.
  • Forecast sales targets and ensure they are met by the team.
  • Track and record activity on accounts and help to close deals to meet these targets.
  • Work with marketing staff to ensure that prerequisites (like prequalification or getting on a vendor list) are fulfilled within a timely manner.
  • Ensure all team members represent the company in the best light.
  • Present business development training and mentoring to business developers and other internal staff.
  • Research and develop a thorough understanding of the company's people and capabilities.
  • Understand the company's goal and purpose so that will continual to enhance the company's performance.
